One Week of Continuous Anesthesia by Propofol (2,6-Diisopropylphenol) Does Not Cause Neurobehavioral Changes after Recovery in the Mexican Axolotl Salamander

چکیده
The Mexican axolotl salamander is an important model species in regenerative medical research and experiments involving this often require anesthesia which usually limited to the duration of surgical procedure or other interventions, lasting no more than a few hours. This study aimed examine potential for increasing by continued propofol infusion week. Neurobehavioral changes response prolonged were evaluated after two seven days recovery assessing resultant tactile nociceptive stimulation tracking activity levels post-anesthesia. No indications neurotoxicity found, but significant reversible swelling was observed. concern should be addressed before attempting extend beyond one week future experiments. In summary, our demonstrated long-term with neurotoxicity.

Muscle relaxation does not alter hypnotic level during propofol anesthesia.
UNLABELLED Electromyographic (EMG) activity can contaminate electroencephalographic signals. Paralysis may therefore reduce the Bispectral Index (BIS) by alleviating artifact from muscles lying near the electrodes. Paralysis may also reduce signals from muscle stretch receptors that normally contribute to arousal. We therefore tested the hypothesis that nondepolarizing neuromuscular block reduc...

Propofol (2,6‐diisopropylphenol) is an applicable immersion anesthetic in the axolotl with potential uses in hemodynamic and neurophysiological experiments
The Mexican axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) is an important model species in regenerative biology. Traditionally, axolotls are anesthetized using benzocaine or MS-222, both of which act to inhibit voltage gated sodium channels thereby preventing action potential propagation. In some neurophysiological experiments this is not desirable; therefore we tested propofol as an alternative anesthetic in ...

UNLABELLED We compared the recovery characteristics of remifentanil, desflurane, and sevoflurane when used for anesthesia in elective operative procedures. Sixty ASA physical status I and II patients, aged 18-65 yr, were randomly assigned to receive remifentanil-propofol, desflurane-N2O, or sevoflurane-N2O anesthesia. Before the induction of anesthesia, the patients of the desflurane and sevofl...
